Overview of project so far:

Initially started with investigating conversations around the 'Veil' in terms of Western as well as Middle Eastern perspectives. Started to investigate architectural equivalent of the veil which is the Mashrabiya (walls with holes in certain Arabian design). I felt like my ideas were starting to get dry so went back in my sketchbook to my deconstruction of the veil and saw a link as I got reminded of flower petals. After this, I tried to use my 3 key words: CONFINEMENT, EXPOSURE, FRAGILITY, when manipulating the flowers. This is the stage where I am at now. I feel like I am running out of ideas in terms of how I can link the concept of 'veiling' something to my flowers, so I'm struggling a bit with that and my direction. I'm also unsure about how much experimentation I can actually do with the flowers- I feel like I am very limited and am unsure where to go after. I feel like I will not have enough development in my sketchbook.

What Chris and I talked about during Progress Tutorials:

Branch into literal ideas of physical restriction- petals in deconstruction of veil

Petals to create veil? Veil for petal?

Veil is all about sexuality and concealing- similar to a flower. delicate and vulnerable.

Dip flower in black paint?

Should feed an original ideas- colour; texure/fabric: knit, print; mood; shape

Take different elements of main ideas and let it inspire in different ways- through its colour, texture, shape, concept.

Compliment or contradict the subject?

The unknown, and mystery of whats under the veil

Abstracted islamic pattern? Now its always repeated

Deconstruct but keep the essence of the islamic pattern the same- Difficult!

Start thinking in 3D- take islamic pattern and start draping onto it.

Action Plan:

To be honest, ever since progress tutorials and the increasing commotion with the virus, I haven't really been able to do work and I know I am behind. I am traveling home to Bahrain tomorrow after so much confusion and conversation with my family concerning whether I should stay or leave. Before my next online feedback session, I hope to catch up on my work as soon as I finally get back to Bahrain. I know I haven't done enough, it's just been difficult concerning the virus and like everything surrounding it like what materials I can afford to bring home with me to complete this project well.

I have made plans to start draping and thinking in 3D as soon as I get back, and hopefully get a better gage on my direction so that I can really get on with it, and hopefully have a solidified plan in terms of what you recommend I do next after this feedback session.
